Description
Longpara is a long acting and safe analgesic with marked antipyretic property. It is for the effective relief of persistent fever and pain. It is specially suitable for patients who, for any reason, can not tolerate aspirin or other analgesics.
Composition
Each extended release tablet contains Paracetamol BP 665 mg.
Indications And Uses
Longpara is an extended release formulation that provides effective relief from persistent fever and pain for up to 8 hours. It is indicated for all conditions requiring relief from fever and pain such as neuritis, neuralgia, headache, earache, toothache, pain due to rheumatic disorder, cold, influenza, dysmenorrhoea, post-vaccination pain and fever of children etc. Longpara is also suitable for People with stomach ulcers, Breast feeding mothers, Asthmatics sensitive to Aspirin and NSAIDS.
Dosage And Administration
Age- 12 years to Adult: 2 tablets at a time three times (every 6-8 hours) a day (maximum 6 tablets in 24 hours). Can be taken with or without food. The tablets must not be crushed.
Side Effect
Side effects of paracetamol are usually mild, though haematological reactions including thrombocytopenia, leucopenia, pancytopenia, neutropenia, and agranulocytosis have been reported. Pancreatitis, skin rashes, and other allergic reactions may occur occasionally.
Precaution
Do not use: more frequently than every 6 hours; for children below the age of 12 years; & if using other medicines containing paracetamol. Paracetamol should be given with caution to patients with impaired kidney or liver function. Paracetamol should be given with care to patients taking other drugs that affect the liver.
Use In Pregnancy Lactation
Pregnant or nursing mother should consult with a physician before using this product.
Drug Interactions
Anion Exchange Resin: Cholestyramine reduces absorption of paracetamol. Metoclopramide & Domperidone: Metoclopramide & Domperidone accelerate absorption of paracetamol
Overdosage
If an overdose is taken or suspected, go to the hospital immediately even if you feel well, because of the risk of delayed, serious liver damage if left untreated.
Storage
Store in a cool (below 30 °C) and dry place, away from light. Keep out of the reach of children.
Contraindications
Paracetamol is contraindicated for patients with known hypersensitivity to the drug and patients with severe impaired renal and hepatic disease (Viral Hepatitis).
