Description
Sinakof is the preparation of Butamirate Citrate. Sinakof is a centrally acting cough suppressant which is neither chemically nor pharmacologically related to opium alkaloids. In addition to its antitussive effect, Sinakof also decrease the airways resistance. Sinakof is available as 50 mg tablet.
Composition
Sinakof Tablet: Each film coated sustained release tablet contains Butamirate Citrate BP 50 mg.
Indications And Uses
Sinakof is indicated in dry cough of any etiology, pre and post operative cough and whooping cough.
Dosage And Administration
Adults: 2 to 3 tablets daily at 8 to 12 hours interval Adolescents over 12 years of age: The recommended dose is 1 to 2 tablets daily. 6 Years and over: ½ tablet 1 to 2 times daily.
Side Effect
Sinakof is well tolerated. In rare cases, skin rash, nausea, diarrhea, dizziness have been reported. They disappear after reduction of the dosage or discontinuation of the drug.
Use In Pregnancy Lactation
Sinakof should not be used during first trimester of pregnancy. During the remainder of pregnancy, Butamirate Citrate can be used if definitely indicated.
Overdosage
Overdose may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness and hypotension. The usual emergency assistance should be taken: activated charcoal, saline laxative and symptomatic treatment should be given.
Storage
Store in a cool and dry place away from light.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient.
